Sixth Blog Post

The marks of a number of assignments that we handed in during late October and early November was returned to us on Markus.com. I didnt do as well as I have expected, i believe that there are lots of room for improvement with my future assignments. In addition to that, we were also given the mark for our second term test. Again, I did not do as well as I have anticipated. I found the second test to be noticeably more difficult than the first one, and the second question "compare and contrast time sharing computers and current web browsers" was the hardest one. Although I had some idea of what the two were, I wasn't able to provide an adequate explanation about how exactly they functioned and the differences between the two.
Personally i thought the second project was significantly more challenging compared to the first one. However at the same time, its much more interesting as well. I really enjoyed the process. While working on project 2, i ran in to some trouble and and to seek professor Heap for help during his office hours. Professor Heap was very helpful; he provided a through and in-depth explanation as to why my code wasn't working (turns out that in Dr.Racket eq? and equal? can under certain circumstances be interpreted differently by the program).

Fifth Blog Post

The lecture done on privacy and the information professor Heap gave us on protecting personal privacy was very useful in my opinion.  I think that in today's society, privacy is a big concern for many teens and kids who are on the internet.  Purchases are being made online meaning credit card numbers are being swapped between different internet servers.  People who aren't of our generation such as our parents or grandparents feel the urge to not involve oneself in online shopping, chatting, social media, however; in our generation it is part of our everyday lifestyle and habit.  This made me realize how our society is changing in terms of technological use.  I feel like this topic was very informative and useful to learn due to the lack of concern for giving out personal information to the public these days.  I do think there needs to be a change in mindset towards giving away personal information online, and protecting personal privacy.  Sometimes we forget what information is private because we are so used to giving it away online for things as simple as draws/contests from your everyday coffee shop like Tim Hortons to being on a mailing list to your favourite clothing store.

Fourth Blog Post

The semester is almost finished and just recently, we had our second term test. To be honest, I wasn't as pleased with my performance on this term test than the first. I felt like I felt I didn't have enough time to put all my thoughts into the longer answer questions. The first term test in my opinion was much easier, but that's probably because I spent much more time studying for that term test. I haven't gotten my mark back yet, but I feel that I should have studied more for this course. Hopefully the final exam will go well. In order to prepare for the final exam, i will first read the power-points and the long notes of the history of computer development, and this is also my weak part, and i would like to write main points carefully on the aid paper and recite some of them if i have enough time. secondly, i will watch the racket videos again and will take some notes down on the aid paper this time. i will try each video by myself using Dr.Racket. Finally, i will look at my past tests and quizzes, as for the mistakes, i will rethink and redo it to avoid making them once more in the final exam. I hope i will do better in the final exam than the second term test.

Third Blog Post

In my previous post I mentioned project one and the second term test. However recently I have become aware of the fact that other than my first assignment (which was the Wikipedia assignment proposal) and a number of tutorial quizzes, I have not had any other marks returned to me, neither on the CSC104 web page under "grades" nor markus.com. I am quite concerned about this, as a number of other assignments and tests have been handed in, such as Wikipedia assignment part 2, course blog, project 1 and term test 1.
If anyone reading this blog can provide me with some information as to what is going on with the marking system, and whether or not I should report this to the course coordinator I would really appreciate it.

Second Blog Post

As term two test is drawing close, I have decided to start reviewing the material that is expected to be on the second term test of this course. From students who have taken the course in the previous years, I have heard that the second term test would be much more difficult compared to the first term test. I hope the different is not that significant and goes completely beyond what we expect.
As for project 1, I don't feel like it is very difficult. However, I did struggle a lot with the directions for the assignment. Personally I think that the instructions are not adequately written and does not do a very good job of informing the students of what to do. Hopefully they will be more informative in the future.

First Blog Post

This is my first post to my blog, about six days after the first term test. The first term test is relatively simple and everything honestly went better than I had been expecting. Nothing on it was there to trick people into thinking the answer was something else.
The first few weeks of this course has went well. A lot of interesting things about the history of computing has been taught to us (from the history of algorithms, to binary). I haven't started studying for the second term test yet, although its readily on its way, but hope to do so soon.
As for the second part of the first assignment; Wikipedia Assignment Part II, I found the assignment to be straight forward and a very effective way to get familiar with Wikipedia format and codes.
Overall, I've been enjoying my experience in this course.
